Puppies, grandkids, in-laws and life on the farm

It's summer on Sigler Farms. One of my favorite times of the year. That means the play house is up, the grandkid's gator has been racing around the farm yard many times the past few weeks, and we've had several family gatherings over the last few weekends since my mother-in-law has been visiting.

A typical Sunday afternoon usually finds one or both of our kids and their families over . . . that alone creates an Erma Bombeck-like picnic because anywhere from three to six grandchildren ages five and younger race through the door (leaving it open, of course!) and race out again to claim a bike, gator, peddle tractor (International 560) or swing (or argue over who gets what first). An unorganized chaos follows, along with something good to eat from the Holland grill. We usually end the day with Papaw taking everyone for a wagon ride in the woods pulled by his 1950 Farmall Super A.

The wagon, however, is getting too small now that Elroy, the yellow lab, has joined our family and the wagon crew. He's been on three rides already. And that doesn't even consider our newest granddaughter who isn't quite big enough for a ride yet or that all of the adults who want to go along at the same time, can't! Ahh...life on the farm is good!

The woods are beautiful this time of year, and about 10 degrees cooler. The trees provide a beautiful canopy of green against the bright blue sky. Occassionally, I'll catch a glimpse of a hawk or perhaps a bluebird. I've even seen a Great Horned owl flying away from me (about five years ago). There are a host of other beautiful birds and wildlife in the woods. It doesn't matter if it's just my husband and I, or a wagon full of grandkids and a yellow lab, Sigler Farms and our woods in the summer is a great place to be. God is good.
